Jackie Slone works hard to remain competitive in NMCA VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod.

His car, his combination and his capabilities are all top-notch, and he is committed to keeping it that way.

So when he did not accomplish everything he wanted to accomplish in the 2023 racing season, he put plans in place for 2024.

“We were running a 971 cubic-inch Chevrolet engine by Pat Musi and a SpeedTech nitrous system, but over winter, Pat Musi stepped that up to 990 cubic-inches and we bought a spare engine of the same size from him," said Slone. "We wanted to be prepared, and we wanted a backup.”

Both engines were built around CN blocks and feature Dart heads, Gibtec pistons, GRP rods and Pat Musi-designed intakes. Slone continues to rely on his SpeedTech nitrous system.

While the Michigan-based racer missed the first two events on the 2024 Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals tour, he pulled in for the Scoggin Dickey Parts Center NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem presented by Scott’s Trailer Sales & Saturday Thrill Festival in late May, early June at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He qualified in the fifth spot with a 3.81, picked up to a 3.77 to win the first round of eliminations and picked up further to a 3.74, but exited in the second round of eliminations in his 1969 Camaro-bodied car.

“We are running well, but we need to get dialed in to pick up to 3.60s because that is where we need to be to stay competitive,” said Slone, who is also competing in Red Line Oil PDRA Pro Boost and Pro Mod at Milan Dragway in Michigan.

Slone is now in the process of replacing his previous transmission with a four-speed Liberty’s Gears transmission which he purchased from fellow racer Jay Cox, and will maintain along with Craig and Nicole Liberty at Liberty’s Gears. He plans to make some test passes with it before diving into the fourth of six races on the Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals tour, the TorqStorm Superchargers NMRA/NMCA Power Festival presented by Nitto Tire & Saturday Thrill Festival, July 19-21, 2024 at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan.

“I am going all-in to run 3.60s, but let me tell you, this is tough,” said Slone. “It takes a lot to time, a lot of effort and a lot of money to get there, but I am pushing forward. I wouldn’t be able to do this without my wife, Lindsey, my father, Jack, uncle, Larry, brother, Rodney, cousin, Matt Waldrup, the rest of my family, my crew chief, Justin Carey, and Keith Scharp, as well as Mullins Auto Parts and Service, The Fence Company, The Hands of Hope of Illinois, Pro Hose Connections, Hoosier Tires and Braille Battery.”
